Community spirit – it’s a commonly used phrase and it can mean many things to many people. Here is what it means to us.
We want to be able to provide things that certain element of our community needs, let alone wants, and to be able to provide as much of it as possible as a complementary service.
Here’s what we have arranged so far:
– We have a fixed charity partner.
– Our director has been a voluntary mentor through the Santander Women Business Leaders Programme since 2020.
– We look to promote local events through sponsorships.
– We look for other ways in which we can support the needs of local organisations.
Our chosen charity partner is Saint Francis Hospice, and we have been part of their Hospice 100 since 2024. But our link with the hospice goes back many decades through our director. When the Hospice was first raising funds to convert the Hall, previously owner by the Pemberton-Barnes family, our director, Ian was indirectly involved in their May Fayre’s on the village green, flower festivals and church open days by ringing the bells in the St John’s church belltower.
Decades later two of his aunts were residents at Saint Frances Hospice before their passing and another aunt was cared for in another hospice in Norfolk. He knows how important keeping the hospice movement alive is. He is keenly aware of how difficult it is to keep raising the same amount, let alone more each year.
He has decided to increase the donations to Saint Francis by 20% in this financial year and he hopes it can continue its upward trajectory over the next few years.
Before Santander introduced the Women Business Leaders Programme, our director was a regular speaker at the Breakthrough events that Santander provided to all local business account holders. It was this link that enabled him to apply, and be accepted for, this programme.
It hopes to support businesses that are stuck, or struggling, in one way or another and help them to thrive following a period of procrastination or purely not knowing what is best to do next.
We like to be able to support events that support local businesses, charities and the local community. To date we have sponsored business events like the Essex Business Partnerships Business Show, the Havering Chamber of Commerce and Industry Business Showcase, The Barking & Dagenham Chamber of Commerce Business awards dinner, the Blackmore Village Fayre and an activity day at Urban Promise UK.
These events have been carefully chosen as all of these events and those organising them also have a strong belief in the roles of businesses supporting others in the community.
This is the only topic where we may charge for some, or all of the services we provide. But here’s a few examples of support we haven’t charged for.
We helped a local podiatrist create new operational procedures so that they could continue operating when the rules surround COVID 19 were still new and very confusing.
We have helped numerous businesses with help understanding the most significant areas of Data Protection and how practical solutions can help streamline processes.
We facilitated a Fire Safety awareness course for a local membership organisation which was greatly appreciated by all who attended.
